Philip L. Becker founded eSoft, with an initial focus on producing and selling the TBBS bulletin board system for IBM-PC computers. Microsoft and other software companies relied on TBBS for their online support before the Internet became prevalent. eSoft then introduced the IPAD (Internet Protocol Adapter) as a means of adapting to the Internet. Initially, the IPAD served as a gateway to TBBS using protocols such as FTP and DNS. Over time, it evolved into an “Internet in a box” solution, providing ISPs and companies with a single appliance purchase to establish a point of presence on the Internet. To aid in eSoft’s redirection, Daryl facilitated their IPO and helped raise over $30M.
